After 23 seasons in the NHL, Patrick Marleau ends his ice hockey career. The 42-year-old Canadian, who replaced the NHL legend Gordie Howe in 2021 after almost 60 years and played a total of 1779 games, said his resignation on Tuesday. "If you had told the child on the frozen pond that one day it would break the record of Gordie Howe, it would have thought you were crazy," said Marleau. From 1997 the striker played for 19 years with the San Jose Sharks before moving to the Toronto Maple Leafs for two years.
Marleau returned to California, then he was transferred to the Pittsburgh Penguins. In 2020/21 he played again in San Jose, Marleau paused in the past season.
